Getting down to business

With KDCCI CEO John Lally

Grab your diary, open up your calendar and have your mobile handy

This week the start of the new school year will signal the end of the annual migration of Pilbara locals south for the summer!

It’ll be back to “business as usual” before you know it so make the most of the quiet time left to starting thinking about, and planning for, the year ahead.

So grab you diary, open up your calendar and have your mobile phone handy because boy have we got an exciting 12 months lined-up for you.

For KDCCI  this  year is all about connectivity . Local businesses connecting with each other, with government departments, major contractors and resource companies. The KDCCI will be  using its extensive  network and contacts to champion and promote  local businesses in all levels of the Pilbara economy.

Twenty-sixteen will see the return of some of our biggest and most successful events including regular/monthly Business After Hours which will kick off on the 10th February with a sundowner co-hosted by Everywhere Travel and Cruise & Karratha Kats Football Club.

The Business After Hours provide an excellent opportunity for business and professional networking, and always attract a strong crowd, but I’d love to see some new faces this year.

So I’d like to issue a challenge…  Reach out to a client, supplier or a colleague and ask them to be your invited guest at an upcoming Business After Hours.

The KDCCI is one of regional Western Australia’s biggest and most active Chambers of Commerce and I’d really like to show non-members exactly what they are missing out on!

We’ll also continue working with the City of Karratha to present quarterly Business Breakfast Briefings with the first event planned for the 17th February. As with all our events we really appreciate your feedback!  So please, get in touch and let us know if there are any subjects or issues you’d like covered at one of the Business Breakfast Briefings.

We’ll also be partnering with Pilbara Joblink, Karratha Senior High School and St Luke’s College to present Careers Central on the 12th May 2016. This expo-style event showcases the many education, training and employment opportunities available across the region for Pilbara school leavers.  It’s an invaluable resource for students and parents and helps shape career choices for hundreds of young ones.

The much-loved Corporate Golf Day will also make its return to our annual events calendar, after a one-year hiatus.

Following a highly-successful inaugural year we are very pleased to confirm the Pilbara Business Bootcamp will be back in 2016. Please put your thinking caps on and let us know what you’d like to see at this event – remember the aim of the Pilbara Business Bootcamp is to build capacity for success and sustainability in the local business community. We want to know how we can help turn your obstacles into opportunity.

We’ll start calling for nominations for the annual Business Excellence Awards in July but because the submission process is quite detailed and time intense it’s helpful to start thinking about whether you’d like your business to be in the running…

The Annual Business Excellence Awards will be held in early September and one of our favourite parts of the year is revealing the theme a few weeks before…  What will it be???

And finally we’ll also be promoting lots of workshops and information sessions throughout the year on an as-needed basis.  Details will be available through the weekly e-news!

Now that I’ve given you some dates to pencil in and a few things to think about…  I’d like to wish all of our members a prosperous and profitable 2016!

Upcoming Workshops in Karratha - Public Speaking Dynamics

A happy New Year to everyone in the Pilbara from Public Speaking Dynamics.
Women in Leadership is a hot topic at the moment and in Australia women are underrepresented in management and leadership roles. Research has shown that women need to communicate differently to men, rather than trying to match men, to be successful leaders. Research has also shown that many women suffer from impostor syndrome and feel that maybe they are not up to a leadership role or not deserving of such status. The good news is that women are up to leadership roles and are effective leaders and women can stamp their own unique leadership style on any position. To help aspiring and existing female leaders take the next step confidently, Kylah Morrison and my wife Violet Dhu have teamed up to run a 2-day masterclass called Women in Leadership. It will be held in Karratha on the 3rd and 4th of March.
A big part of leadership and being a good manager is effective presentation skills and public speaking. I will be running my one day Winning Presentation Skills workshop in Karratha on the Friday the 4th of March.
You will also notice during 2016 we will be changing our name and branding from Public Speaking Dynamics to Corporate Communication Experts.

During 2016 we plan to come to Karratha several times and if we can be of any assistance  with an in-house workshop for your staff, please do let us know.
Regards, Peter and Violet Dhu
