City of Karratha welcomes Balla Balla Iron State Agreement

A new iron ore mine, port and rail project near Whim Creek with the potential to create thousands of jobs has been welcomed by the City of Karratha.

The position of the mine raises the potential for a large residential and drive in drive out workforce to be based with the City to service the mine, port and rail operations.

The project also raises the prospect of unlocking stranded iron ore assets which currently have no way of getting to market.

The project is worth an estimated $5 billion and could see 3000 workers employed during the construction phase.

The next City of Karratha Business Breakfast will feature a community and business update about the project from the proponents. The breakfast will be held on Tuesday 28 February.
