Business Time with KDCCI CEO Kylah Morrison

It was great to see so many of you at our first BAH last night hosted by Signs West.

Congratulations again to Signs West for 21 years in Pilbara and the epic achievements you’ve made in that time. We love seeing our locals shine in the national spotlight.

And… we love welcoming new members to our community! All up 22 new members since last year (top effort Kim and Carla). KBSS have also moved up to Diamond sponsorship – wahoo!

Third week into the role and it’s fair to say I’m buzzing.

Across the board the groundwork John Lally and the staff have put in over the past 18 months is certainly starting to bear fruits.

Speaking with representatives from Yara, Woodside, Rio Tinto, Chevron and BBI Group, I can tell you the majors are all actively working on ways to better engage local suppliers.

CME are leading the Pilbara Collaboration Charter to assist with local procurement in addition to other priority focus areas:

1.     Employment, education & training

2.     Community development – health

3.     Procurement and supply chain

4.     Joint project initiatives

So how can small to medium sized business influence this initiative?

Have your say, get in touch.

Tell us what is working and what is not when it comes to local procurement for you as a business operating within the City of Karratha. We will be your collective voice.

The regional coworking community across WA is also starting to flourish.

I visited Make Place in Mandurah earlier this month, and yesterday the construction site for PHCCI’s business.

Exciting discussions with Spacecubed are taking place about programs we’re looking at rolling out this year through the KDCCI Coworking Space in Karratha Village.

According to this article by Entrepreneur.com, large corporations are partnering with coworking spaces to support innovation and idea exchanges.

Big corporations moving into coworking spaces, “now have better access to innovators, innovations, talent, and reduced real estate costs.”

Remember - not everyone knows your business name, and by advertising within the Business & Community Directory you will be easily found.

Most residents have a copy of the Directory in the car; at home and in the office. Take advantage of this opportunity!
