At the KDCCI we provide advocacy, training facilitation and networking opportunities for you our members.

Advocating on behalf of our local business community is easy when you tell us your biggest concerns in business right now.

The key issues we’re hearing at the moment are:

  • Wage increases for specific skill sets (which the recent visa changes are adding pressure to)
  • More information needed about indigenous engagement and partnership opportunities
  • How do we get more people to shop local (from the individual right through to the corporates)

I was in Parliament House last Thursday with the Regional Chambers of Commerce WA. This market update proved very valuable to communicate to a number of Ministers what we are currently experiencing up here in the City of Karratha.

Based on our feedback, CCIWA are putting together a submission to the State Government and the Small Business Development Commission are assisting us to improve local procurement opportunities.

In the training space, we facilitated a great session with over 15 training and development service providers last week.

The intent was to:

  1. Determine who was providing training and development services to the Pilbara,
  2. Where any gaps were, and
  3. How we can better communicate the services available to you our local businesses at your specific stage in business whether that be start-up, growth phase, maturity, exit or rebirth for example.

Save the date – Pilbara Business Bootcamp 25th July 2018!

We’ve also got the Resource Ready Program commencing 8th August for those of you keen to expand you presence in the resource sector. More info below.

Finally, in regards to networking, what a FANTASTIC turnout we saw at the last City of Karratha Business Breakfast Briefing! Over 200 businesses.

And thanks again to Blanche Bar and Realmark Karratha for the great BAH on the lawn outside The Quarter this week. Regarding the proposed liquor restrictions for Karratha, please do send in your thoughts to our local member Kevin Michel MLA, Hon Paul Papalia MLA or direct to the Department of Racing, Gaming and Liquor.

As always, we love hearing from you so hit reply or email me ceo@kdcci.asn.au and let us know how you are going.

Pilbara Development Commission Media Release, Pilbara trial bolstered by additional 120,000 oysters

More than 120,000 juvenile oysters have journeyed from Western Australia’s shellfish hatchery in Albany to their new home on the Dampier coast this week where they will grow out to market size as part of the Pilbara Rock Oyster Research and Development project.
Produced from brood stock collected from the Dampier Archipelago earlier this year, the juvenile oysters will bolster the 3,000 wild juvenile oysters that were collected and placed in grow out baskets at the trial site in March.
