Business time with KDCCI CEO Kylah Morrison

Another exciting announcement yesterday with Rio Tinto's $3.5b Koodaideri mine getting approved.

Times have been tough in recent years for our business community, but the tide is slowly turning.

Now is the time to sharpen your local value proposition to ensure you make the most out of this next upcycle.

Come along to the Rio TInto Capability Enhancement Programme Workshop #4 next Wednesday to learn how to submit effective tenders.

Also running next week are the Direct Freight Analysis Workshops on Wednesday morning.

Have your say about the impact the cost of freight has on your business by filling out this SURVEY.

The KDCCI faced some challenges of its own in 2018 and we responded by restructuring our
operations and diversifying revenue streams to bring on new sponsors.

Highlights achieved during the year include:

  • Our #MemberMonday Facebook live profiles of local business owners;
  • Delivering Business Capability Build initiatives including the BBIG supported RESA Resources Ready Program 2018 and the Rio Tinto Capability Enhancement Programme workshops;
  • Introduction of the KDCCI Contractors and Suppliers Roundtable; and
  • The newly formed Pilbara Aboriginal Business Network

As always, we really appreciate your feedback!  Keep it coming through… ceo@kdcci.asn.au

AFD Pty Ltd has been commissioned by the City of Karratha to undertake an important study into the current state of freight and logistics inwards to and outwards from the Pilbara region.

The study covers air, rail, sea and air freight.

Opportunities for logistics improvements into Karratha could include direct sea freight liner service links to Asia from Dampier and direct air freight links from Karratha to Asia.

The study focusses on general and construction freight, fuel, consumables, materials, equipment, machines and vehicles brought into the Pilbara to support: townships and town businesses, mines and mining exporters, oil and gas producers, industrial plants, government businesses, utility providers and pastoralists.

The study also details general freight, livestock, equipment, vehicles and materials or goods, including recyclables, brought out of the Pilbara.

BHP SOUTH FLANK OPPORTUNITIES

BHP South Flank – How to connect to Project Opportunities

Many packages are being awarded for BHP’s South Flank project and they may have subcontract items that Pilbara companies can supply.

Keep an eye on the ICN Gateway page as when the package is awarded ICNWA will post the successful tenderer.

How to find the opportunities

There’s lots of information on the ICN Gateway, so here’s a quick guide on how to navigate the site.

Project opportunities are being listed on ICN Gateway (Click here(NOTE: use Goggle Chrome as your browser)

Scroll down the South Flank Gateway project page and you will see successful contractors are being listed under the headings of Contracts (13 contracts awarded) and Procurement (8 packages awarded).

The gold cup symbol signifies the package has been awarded and the successful tenderer listed.

The following successful contractors have listed packages on the Gateway page. While these packages have closed there could be cascading supply opportunities when the successful awards are made. ICNWA will be posting the successful tenderer details against the package:

PILBARA LABOUR MARKET REVIEW

We have over 1300 jobs listed on SEEK for Karratha. With an unemployment rate of less than 2% we need don't need more jobs in the Pilbara, we need more people living and working here.

The more data we have to prove which skilled professions are in highest demand, the more we can influence opportunities for a Designated Area Migration Agreement to allow Pilbara employers to sponsor skilled and semi-skilled overseas workers in areas experiencing skills and labour shortages.

Obvioucly this is just one of the strategies to address this issue a number of our local businesses are facing, along with the City of Karratha's $1.9M place branding strategy.

Please fill out this survey and go in to win a $150 voucher of your choice:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WR85BP5

Winner will be drawn COB Monday 3rd December.
